Overview
Mason Clark Associates (MCA) were commissioned by Yorkshire Water to transform an open office space into their new Incident Room location.
MCA were on a framework with Yorkshire Water for the provision of professional construction advice; MCA had tendered to be on the framework and won a place.
This Incident Room was a vital new asset for Yorkshire Water and the project was set in motion to establish a room to manage major incidents across the Yorkshire Water region, such as floods and burst pipes.
Tasks/Challenges
Mason Clark Associate’s engineers faced numerous challenges on this project. One such challenge was the fact that we were operating in a live office environment. Moreover, the new room was to be used for sensitive matters and hence was high-security access only.
Knowing we had to work alongside a live, operational suite of offices, working closely with the client to schedule the works carefully to timetable our input around the operations of the site, ensuring we caused minimal disruption was essential.
Segregating the contract works and coordination of the M&E services, allowed all the surrounding offices to be kept fully operational.
To maintain the secure integrity of the incident room, all MCA engineers working on site were DBS checked, vetted and had appropriate clearance.
Activity
MCA designed and Project Managed the scheme which saw the refurbishment to enable Yorkshire Water to coordinate operations connected to any major incident within the Yorkshire Water portfolio, from environmental hazard to serious leaks. Works carried out were the re-modelling of the existing area including new partitions and the installation of a suspended ceiling, new doors, carpets and decorations.
Results
The project was delivered on schedule and on budget despite the challenges and potential for delays we faced due to the operational status of the site and security requirements.
We received an email from the client, warmly thanking us for our excellent work on the project.
