Overview
Mason Clark Associates (MCA) were commissioned by East Riding of Yorkshire Council to carry out principal inspections of 7 bridges along the A1079 to the North of Hull.
Tasks / challenges
The inspections found that some maintenance work to the bridges was required, MCA produced the tender documents for the works, including drawings and specifications. The works included replacing the guided bearings and installing access platforms to 3 of the bridges to allow easier maintenance in the future.
Activity
To carry out the principal inspections, and the inspections themselves MCA arranged access to the bridges using a cherry picker/MEWP and provided traffic management, keeping the client informed to ensure the required lane closures were booked appropriately.
MCA designed and detailed the access platforms for the 3 bridges requiring them. We also provided a pre-tender estimate of the costs of the works to the client and pre-construction information as required by the 2015 CDM regulations.
Once a contractor was appointed and the works began onsite, MCA provided ongoing technical advice, acted as Principal Designer and provided quantity surveying services.
Results
We fulfilled our duties to the highest standard by maintaining continuous contact with the client and have now achieved a greater appreciation of the value of robust health and safety procedures, especially for works such as the hydro demolition of concrete.
